Creative Package Design: Drinks

Space & Time Design's second edition to the Package Design blog posts. This post will feature different packaging designs for drinks...
Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa has created a series of creative fruit juice packages that have the look and feel of the fruit they contain.

The mountain-shaped Evian 2005 glass bottle looks like it should contain a fragrance or at least some strange new liqueur. The bottle was distributed through early 2005 to 100 countries including the U.S. where it sold for $2.50. The bottles were intended to sell as a gift item.

Peared is an experiment in packaging-design pioneered by a designer by the name of Conor Hagan.

Beautiful, unique and creative packaging from Arnell for 1000 Acres Vodka. This really demonstrates that there are no limits to custom glass manufacturing.

Economical, low cost and environmentally friendly. These paper based bottles can hold liquid and are resealable.

Why use social networking?

Social Networking sites such as: Twitter, Facebook and Digg are great for promoting your business.

Latest news updates, new products and offers can be promoted through social networking. Followers and friends are very useful for finding new business and for taking tips and ideas off of competitors and other companies in your sector.

Interacting with friends and followers is always good as it gives you a personality. A lot of businesses use software to automatically ‘tweet’ through the night when your asleep so that Twitter requires no human interaction.

Why use email marketing and newsletters?

Businesses need their own professional email addresses, especially if emails and newsletters are going to be sent via the business.
Here are some examples of email addresses: john@spaceandtimedesign.co.uk and johnspaceandtimedesign1_1@hotmail.com
Obviously the first email address is the best one because it looks professional, everyone knows that hotmail is most popularly used for personal email addresses – not business.
Register and call back forms can be used on websites for visitors to fill in, Forms like this help you capture data from visitors and potential client. If your site sells products then it is always a good idea to get people to register either before or after purhasing products so you can keep their details for when you want to send newsletters and special offers.

Why Choose Online Marketing?

1. Online Marketing is now a vital tool for businesses. Technology is used so often worldwide; it would almost be a mistake not to use it.
2. Online Marketing is a broad term for websites, emails, newsletters and social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
3. These methods of marketing can promote your business 24/7 and does not require any face to face interaction. In comparison online marketing is cheaper to offline marketing (sending out flyers and leaflets to potential clients) as online marketing is low cost (once set up) however offline marketing still needs to be done as not everyone uses the Internet.
4. Constant promotion for your business allows you to reach other markets via the internet which you possibly wouldn’t of been able to reach before using offline marketing.
5. Once a website and other online marketing techniques have been set up, they need to be maintained and monitored. Various tools and techniques can be used to monitor site traffic this would be an example of search engine optimisation (SEO).
6. Using online marketing keeps clients and potential clients up to date.

Urban Forest Eco-Friendly Sky Scraper

MAD Architects have designed a building for the Chinese city Chongqing which has been described as an ‘Urban Forest’, the 70 storey building will include open space on each floor, in a compact space. Each floor has been designed slightly off set; enabling each floor to get some sunlight.

The design of this building has been inspired by the broad Chinese mountainous landscapes, the building will be supported by a core cylindrical structure connecting all the floors together and would include all mechanical systems and elevators.

Each floor of the building will be shielded by full length glass windows to give a perfect city view. The floors will have different sized balconies to suit budgets; swimming pools will also be on most of the floors with their own gardens and courtyards. The floors will be a mix of open spaces, offices and residential space.

The Urban Forest will be a pure example of an eco-friendly metropolis.

Below are some images of what the building will look like...

What Makes A Good Design Brief?

When discussing a new job with a client it is vital that a strong design brief is set in place. In order for the company to get what they want, they must tell the designers what they want – especially if it is something specific. The bases of the job must be made clear with both the designers and the client. Here are some examples of good and bad brief points:Bad Briefs Include- No brief until some visuals have been produced- No client input- Unrealistic targets- Very broad and vague- No background information about the client or the company- Too much information from the client- Too much personal preferenceGood Briefs Include- Background information about the company- What is going to be achieved from the job- What is the purpose of the job- Who are the competitors- What kind of theme the client wants i.e. modern or traditional- Target Audience- Budget- Technical Specifications

Why Should I Invest In A Logo?

A logo is the first impression of your companyAs we all know first impressions are very important! Before any customer or client even contacts you, your logo is a representation of the company and will help build up your reputation (whether that is good or not!). A logo can make a company look professional, unprofessional or just basic. We know what type of logo you should be going for…Invest in your logoDepending on the logo and how well it has been designed, you shouldn’t have to change your company logo for years except from a few possible tweaks to keep it up to date.Being unique is the keyA logo needs to be fresh and original, this will give your company an edge over competitors. A logo needs to be bespoke and specific to you. A logo should never be made from a template, if so… it is to be avoided.Cheap as Chips Some design companies will use clip art in their logos, which will look unprofessional and could run the risk of being used by another company.Proud and ConfidentYour company should be proud of their logo and the company image. If your not then your company should maybe consider a new image. Reflect your company valuesDesigning a new logo will take time and thought as it is a lot of work but the end result is always worth it. Some stages in the logo design process would involve: research, initial ideas, tweaking to clients preferences and finalising. Company image gives that professional assetOnce a company has their logo it is very easy to expand your company to having its own image, as it would just be based around the logo. Colours and typography could be spread across stationary, work and communications such as email signatures. This will brand the company and get their image recognised.
